Our CurriculumI use Bob Jones curriculum for Bible . I use Abeka for , phonics,math, writing , science and social studies. Below is a list of the subjects taught and a brief description taken from the Abeka online catalog and from the Bob Jones Press website.
Phonics and Math: “Introduce your child to basic phonics and numbers skills with ABC-123. This workbook uses age-appropriate, colorful exercises to help your child count to 20 and read one-vowel and two-vowel words. Using blend ladders and coloring exercises, your child will learn to recognize all of his letters and the sounds that they make as well as how to count and recognize a specific number of objects. With coloring, matching, dot-to-dot, and tracing exercises, this workbook will give your child a firm understanding of reading and numbers.” Social Studies: "Positive, patriotic themes encourage patriotism. History from a Christian perspective emphasizes God’s hand and guidance in the founding of our country. Introduces community helpers, children from other countries, and, famous Americans. Emphasizes good citizenship and develops reading skills." Science: "Written from an academic, yet distinctively Christian perspective, these texts show God’s plan as it is revealed in His orderly creation. It provides a solid foundation in science based on biblical principles. Presents God as the Master Designer of the world in studies of: • seed, animals, seashore • weather • health and seasons. Hands-on activities help increase comprehension of basic science concepts." Bible: "The Bible Truths Teacher’s Edition contains 160 daily lessons that are organized into fifteen units. Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter units are included and should be taught at the appropriate times of the year. An appendix of songs, a poetry index, and reproducibles are also included. Each lesson begins with a Bible text for the teacher to read and study in preparation for teaching the lesson. Also listed are the doctrinal truths taught, character traits emphasized, verses memorized, catechism introduced and reviewed, and materials needed to teach each lesson. Character stories and application questions and discussions help students understand who God is and the importance of living His way." |
